Course Description
Extended practice in and application of written music theory skills incorporating
and developing music fundamentals. Through guided composition and analysis, students
begin study of functional tonal harmony. Topics include chord function theory, phrase
structures and cadences, two-voice counterpoint, and four-part voice leading principles.

Prerequisites: MUS. 100 or MUS. 301 or MUS. 377 or MUS. 401 or equivalent. Students who already have
some music notation reading experience or who feel they meet the prerequisite through
prior experience (such as playing an instrument or singing in an ensemble) may bypass
the prerequisite by filing a prerequisite challenge petition (https://www.skylinecollege.edu/prerequisites/challengeprocess.php)
and passing a short quiz demonstrating basic music reading skills necessary for success
