Program Overview

Prepares students for licensing as a Cosmetologist. The Cosmetology program requires 1,000 hours of comprehensive training in beauty services.

Courses in the Cosmetology program focus on theoretical foundation, practical manipulative skills, business knowledge, career development in the field, and professional and ethical training needed for licensing through the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. Prepared with excellent entry-level skills, students are able to work in many facets of the beauty industry.

ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES AND REQUIREMENTS

Program Requirements

Required courses (31 units): Units
COSM 701 Cosmetology: Core Concepts 4 units
COSM 702 Cosmetology: Hair Design Concepts 6 units
COSM 703 Cosmetology Chemical Concepts 6 units
COSM 704 Cosmetology Intermediate Concepts 3 units
COSM 705 Cosmetology Business and Salon Experience 9 units
COSM 725 State Board Written Exam Preparation 3 units
Students can earn hours by taking any of the following: Units
COSM 747 Advanced Hair Removal 2 units
COSM 750 Client Services Workshop 1 unit
COSM 767 Eyelash Enhancements 1.5 units
COSM 799 Braiding, Natural Hair Care, and Hair Weaving (Non-Licensure) 3 units
Total Required Major Units: 31

And required General Education coursework and electives as needed to meet the minimum 60 units required for the Associate degree.
