Course Description

Provides historical and contemporary information about corrections in the United States at the federal, state, and county level and an explanation of the correctional system’s place in the broader criminal justice system. The physical, social, and psychological effects of incarceration are discussed, as well as the many challenges associated with attempting to reintegrate into society upon release. Other topics discussed include constitutional considerations and applicable state and federal law.
